29th Cherry Wilkinson Memorial Age Group for June

The June age group gala was well attended and the best since before the pandemic with 30 girls and 20 boys taking part. There were quite a few swimmers in the 9, 11 and 11 year age groups attempting 2 lengths.
There were a total of 7 boys and 18 girls who had qualified for the Most Improved Swimmer Award for June having done the requisit swims in February and June.
Due to a late start with the lane ropes taking longer to put in and the number of swimmers, we overan the gala by 15 minutes.

All in favour passed unanimously.

This was followed by our monthly committee meeting.

Minutes of a Zoom Meeting held on Wednesday 5th July 2023

Present: K. Critchley J. Croxall, P. Croxall, M Ennis, J. Foulkes, O. Rudolph, M. Turner,

Apologies: A. Croxall,

The Minutes of the last Zoom meeting were read and duly signed as correct.

Matters arising:

1. We had to pay S.T.A. an extra £49 per person as they would not issue their certificates until we had paid for insurance. This should have been made clear right at the start of the course.

2. Oz had sent the current balance statement to everyone; we were still in a healthy position. He was still waiting for the pass book from the Skipton Building Society, but was reliably informed that it would be with him within the next few days. Whilst he was in the Building Society's office he was able to transfer £1000 to our account from the Nat West, he would transfer the rest of the £4000 as soon as he had received the pass book. The interest so far accrued was £111.33 which was better than expected.

3. We had 32 people going on the Club Trip on Saturday 8th July to Outdoor Elements and had to pay for an extra 2 people.

4. The next Friendly League Gala was at home to Accrington Academy tomorrow 6th. July.

5. The Age Group Gala on the 29th June had been well attended, with lots of swimmers achieving their personal bests.

Correspondence:
I had received details from Swim England concerning elements which would be mandatory from November 23. Hopefully ours would be submitted in October.

Any Other Business:

1. It was decided to reduce Membership on a pro rata system for the rest of the year, as previously done.
2. After consultation with the teachers about the summer holidays, it was decided that the last session would be on Monday 31st July and re-commence 31st August, the last session for the small pool would be Thursday 27th July.
3. The Sponsored Swim would be on 9th and 12th October, the forms would be available to download this month.
4. The next trials for entry into the Club would be on Thursday 13th July.

The next meeting which would be via Zoom on Wednesday 6th September. at 8.00p.m.
The meeting finished at 8.36pm.
6th Friendly League Fixture

Colne hosted Accrington in their latest fixture in the Friendly League at the Pendle Leisure Centre. After a few delays the contest started about 20 minutes late, but once the racing started it proved to be very close.

Neither team could maintain an advantage throughout the course of the evening as they traded wins. Once the penultimate race had finished the scores were level!
The final 8 x 25m canon relay started and each leg was evenly matched including the last leg, in which, Accrington edged out Colne by 0.25 of a second. This left the final score at 59 points to 58 to Accrington.
The atmosphere built throughout the evening and nearly took the roof off when the final race finished.
Despite the loss the youngh Colne swimmers did themselves proud by recording a further 27 new personal bests with 15 for the girls and 12 for the boys.
8th Outdoor Elements Club Trip

A group of 28 children and a few adults made their way to the Outdoor Elements Activity Centre near Simonstone for a day of adventure and fun.
The children were split up into two groups, 8 and under and the 9 years and over. This was due to one of the instructors being unavailable due to family emergency.
The younger adventurers had fun building shelters and creating fire, which was apt considering the weather forecast. They also fired some arrows in the archery, climbed trees then zoomed across the valley on the Super Zip Line. That must have been fun as they went back for more.
The older adventurers started off firing arrows, then climbing trees before the tricky Jacobs Ladder where they had to work as a team. They finished off the day climbing a tree and jumping off in the Leap of Faith, where quite a few jumped from the high top platform. The last activity was the Mega Zip Line, with some of them having a go at the Super Zip Line.
Everyone was fortunate that the predicted thunderstorms did not arrive, with the rain arriving at lunchtime, followed by light rain when the activities resumed.
At the end of the day there was a group photo before they left happy, with their parents. No doubt the parents had tales of their adventures long into the evening.

10th Annual Presentation

It was a cold, wet and windy night as storm Elin rolled in from the Atlantic, but inside the Colne Cricket Club it was warm dry with constant music from the DJ.
The proceedings started a bit late due to setting up the trophies, but once underway, Andrew gave a brief report on the year culminating in a presentation to a Andy, a representative from Pendleside Hospice, with a cheque for £1100. A photo was taken with a few of the swimmers who raised some money.
The first of the trophies were to the small pool with the Bramhil Memorial Trophy for achievement being presented to Jack Cardus, who showed quick progress in picking up the strokes, and the John Dobbin Memorial Trophy for courage/bravery went to Emma Mitchell who had started scared, but gradually overcame her fears to start enjoying swimming. Unfortunately, neither Jack nor Emma were there, so will be presented with their trophies on a Club night.
The Betty Petty Style Trophies were then awarded to Olive Tattersall and Henry Clough, followed by the presentation of the trophies won at the Club Championship Galas.
The next presentation was for the age group winners from Thursday's Christmas Sprint Gala. This was followed by the t-shirt presentation for the new Club Captains for 2024, who were Henry Manning and Libby Cox as the senior captains, and Zaviah Cotterill and Adison Croxall as the Junior Captains. Before finally presenting the Two Alberts Trophy for Services to the Club, which went to teacher Jayne Wilkinson.
The final awards of the night were to the Spot-On winners, with Adison Croxall winning £5 being 1.47 seconds off her time. Esme Watson winning £10 for being 0.50 seconds off her time, and Isabelle Teal winning £20 being just 0.18 seconds off her time.
Before the buffet was opened and the volume increased by the DJ, a group photo was taken of the trophy winners. Then the party started!
