28th North East Lancs Emergency General Meeting

Due to constitutional issues arising from the Annual General Meeting, an Emergency General Meeting was held at the Hyndburn Sports Centre.

After much discussion a slightly amended structure to the league format was finally agreed.

The age groups are to be changed from 9/10, 11/12, 13/14 and open to 9/10, 11 to 13, 14 to 16 and open. This will inconvenience us as we don’t have the older swimmers. The relays are to be changed to mixed, in that there is now a 13 years and under mixed 4 x 50m Medley Relay, and an open mixed 4 x 50m Medley Relay. Both relays require two boys and two girls, and they can be swam in any order. This can mean that a boy could be racing a girl over 50m.
The two canons at the end of the gala, are to be merged into a single 8 x 25m Freestyle canon, in which, there will be one boy and one girl from each of the age groups. Again the order of the relay is up to the coach to decide.
Finally, at the end of the meeting a proposal of no Category Two swimmers was put forward. This was voted 6 for and 5 against, and as a result, each team must consist of ASA Category One swimmers only. This prompted Clitheroe to immediately resign from the League, and promptly leave the meeting.
The Colne delegates voted against this, and we will try to get this amended for 2018, but for this year it means that anyone who swims in Age Group competitions is ineligible to swim. This includes Level 3 meets and A/B Graded meets, as well as Masters competitions.

4th AGM Report

It was a wet and windy night at the Pendle Leisure Centre, in which, we held our Annual General Meeting.

There were a total of nine people attending, of which, were serving members of the Committee. It was viewed as disappointing that no new people took an interest.

The position of Trophy Secretary is still vacant and needs to be filled. We have our Championship Galas coming up in November, but no one in place to deal with the trophies.

There was only a single change to the Committee, as Richard Baxter decided to call it a day. He has served the Club for nine years.
The rest of the Committee remains unchanged, as does the Officials of the Club. The choosing of the Captains for 2018 has been deferred until the November Committee Meeting.

The Club always needs new people on the Committee so if you feel like you would like to contribute to the Club, then see a Committee Member on a Club night.

The Committee meets once a month, usually on the first Wednesday of that month, the meetings start at 8pm and last for about an hour.

The next Committee Meeting is on Wednesday, 8th November at the Pendle Leisure Centre.

Colne then pegged them back during the Backstroke races. The honours for the Medley Relay races were shared as Great Harwood won the 13 years and under, and Colne the Open age group.

It was them nip and tuck between the two teams throughout the Breaststroke and Freestyle events, leaving the contest level with three races to go. Colne went on to win the two open freestyle races to leave them 2 points ahead with just the 8 x 25m Canon Relay to come.

The race started with the 10 year girls followed by the boys, and it was level. It was the same for both the 13 year and 16 year and under age group, just leaving the last two legs for the open swimmers, and it was still level. Then on the finish of the last length the Colne swimmer stretched out his arm to touch out the Great Harwood swimmer.
