Date Event
6th Sailing on Lake Burwain

22 children from Colne ASC took part in an afternoon’s sailing on Lake Burwain, which was run by Lake Burwain Sailing Club. This opportunity was provided by a grant from the Tom Petty Foundation which funded the entire sailing event. The children ranged from 5 to 15 years of age.
They were taken out in small groups at first to show them how sailing works, then later some of the older children were allowed to go out on their own in pairs, whilst the younger ones were allowed to take control for short spells. Yet it was some of the older children who somehow managed to fall overboard, as they got their turns wrong!
Later in the afternoon some of the adults in attendance were given the opportunity to have a go in the boats, but I'm sure this was a ruse in getting help in removing the boats from the water at the end of the day.
After a most enjoyable afternoon for all, the children were issued certificates to show that they had passed the basic sailing course, and everyone went home with a smile on their face.
